Major Awards Supported by the National Scholarships & Fellowships Program
We are seeking faculty and staff panelists to support the nomination and/or selection process for the following awards (in chronological order). Please indicate your interest on the form above.
UK/Ireland Awards (Marshall, Mitchell, Rhodes, Churchill) – Interviews will be held early September
These awards seek charismatic, service-oriented student leaders with exceptional academic records and fund advanced study in nearly any field at universities and conservatories in the UK and Ireland. Churchill provides one-year funding for a STEM taught master’s program or independent research at Cambridge.
Fulbright Research/Study– Interviews will be held mid September
This award funds one year of research/ study in a foreign country for students with previous research experience and/or preparation for graduate study abroad, strong academic records, and interest in cultural exchange. Language requirements vary by country.
Fulbright ETA– Interviews will be held mid/late September
This award funds one year as an English Teaching Assistant in a foreign country for students with some teaching, mentoring, or related experience and interest in cultural exchange. Language requirements vary by country.

Carnegie Endowment – Gaither Jr. Fellows Program – no interview; committee review in mid-December
This award provides funding for a one-year professional experience as a research assistant and program associate at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace for academically outstanding students committed to a career in international affairs. (Must apply senior year or up to one year after graduation.)
Goldwater Scholarship - no interview; committee review in early January
This award provides funding for educational costs for each remaining undergraduate year for students who intend to pursue a research career in a STEM field; emphasizes academic excellence and research potential. Students considering a PhD and MD/PhD are eligible. (Must apply sophomore or junior year.)
Truman Scholarship – interviews will be held in early January
This award provides funding for graduate study for students with significant leadership and service experience and commitment to a career in public service. (Must apply junior year.)
Bobby Jones Scholarship – Finalist Selection – no interview; committee review in late January
This internal Emory award that funds one year of study at the University of St Andrews in Scotland in any field; open to students enrolled in any Emory school; emphasizes academic excellence, leadership, and exemplary character, integrity, and citizenship. (Must apply senior year or as an early-career Emory graduate student.)
Udall Scholarship – no interview; committee review in late February
This award provides tuition support for students committed to a career related to the environment, or for Native American students in tribal public policy or health care. (Must apply sophomore or junior year.)
Beinecke Scholarship – no interview; committee review in early March
This award provides funding for graduate study in the arts, humanities, or social sciences for students with exceptional academic records and financial need. (Must apply junior year.)
Shepard Scholarship – no interview; committee review in mid-April
This internal Emory award provides funding for the first year of a graduate program in a top-ranked master’s or PhD program; Selection emphasizes intellectual ability, scholastic achievement and personal promise. (May apply senior year or up to three years after graduation.)
