Beginning in their first year, Emory students can engage in faculty-led projects, research programs, and funding opportunities that support sustained exploration and discovery.
Through these experiences, they build foundational skills, clarify their academic interests, develop relationships with faculty mentors, and gain the confidence to pursue internships, graduate study, and competitive fellowships.
Students can use these resources to:

"As a curious student eager to get involved in research, the SIRE program gave me the space to learn how to think critically, design experiments, and turn my curiosity into meaningful scientific questions. During my time in SIRE, I was able to apply what I learned in the classroom to real-world scientific problems, which ultimately marked the beginning of my journey toward becoming an independent researcher."

“Being part of the SURE program granted me the tools to navigate the complexities of research and curation, as a visual artist. Curating my first gallery show within the program was a milestone moment, made possible by a network of people who truly believed in my vision. I'm walking away from this experience with a new level of confidence in my work."

“The SURE program was a great opportunity to devote myself full-time to my honors thesis, while also being financially compensated for my work. I gained insight into how my life would look as a masters or PhD student.”
The Scholarly Inquiry and Research Experience (SIRE) Program introduces first-time undergraduate researchers to hands-on, faculty-mentored research across disciplines. Designed for students with little to no prior experience, SIRE helps participants build foundational research skills, explore academic interests, and begin developing connections with faculty and peers through collaborative projects.
