This asynchronous online summer course, available through the Pathways Center, is for Emory undergraduates who have secured a research summer experience at Emory or an external institution or organization.
URP 499R provides supplemental support to student researchers and prepares them for future academic and professional work through reflection activities and skills development.
This S/U course aims to enrich the experience of students involved in research projects. This course also satisfies the Experience and Application (XA) General Education Requirement (GER). Projects can be in any discipline including the arts, the humanities, social sciences, or STEM.
Emory students in any major who will be conducting research in any discipline are eligible. Research should be conducted during the summer and must meet a minimum of 240 hours. An offer letter from a research host is required to enroll.
URP 499 offers both a zero-credit option and a one-credit option.

To enroll*, students must submit the INTERN / URP 400-Level Course Enrollment Request, which includes an offer letter from their research or applied arts host. The deadline to enroll in URP 499R is May 19, 2026.
Offer letters must include a start date, an end date, the student’s schedule, and the student’s responsibilities. Research hosts may use this example letter as a guide.
To fulfill the Experience and Application (XA) General Education Requirement (GER), students must work for 8 weeks and a total of 240 hours. Students may combine offers to reach the required hours.
