The George W. Jenkins Scholarship is a need-based opportunity open to entrant undergraduate students and renewable for eight academic semesters of undergraduate study at Emory College of Arts and Sciences.
The George W. Jenkins Scholarship is a four-year scholarship awarded to incoming first-year Emory students based on financial need and a demonstrated history of overcoming significant adversity.
The scholarship was established through the generosity of Publix Super Markets Charities in partnership with Emory University in honor of the innovative self-starter and civic-minded Publix founder George W. Jenkins, a Georgia native. Founded in 1930, Publix Super Markets is the largest and fastest growing employee-owned supermarket chain in the United States.
The Jenkins Scholarship is open only to U.S. citizens who are residents of Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee (all of which are home to Publix Super Markets), graduating from a high school within their home state, and enrolling full-time at Emory College. The scholarship is renewable for up to eight regular academic semesters (fall and spring) and must be completed within six years of matriculation.
Candidates are identified from within the pool of applications to Emory College of Arts and Sciences, and there are no supplemental materials required at the time of application.
The award includes full tuition, fees, on-campus housing, a meal plan, a Mac laptop at the start of the first year, and, if needed, student health insurance. In addition, awarded students can be reimbursed for up to $2500 in expenses related to travel for an Alternative Break service trip through Emory University once during their college experience.
Beginning in 2025, the George W. Jenkins Scholarship will not be considered a participating scholarship within the Emory Scholars Program. Thus, students awarded in 2025 and onward will not be eligible for the opportunities nor beholden to the requirements of the Emory Scholars Program. The scholarship provisions, benefits, and requirements for students awarded prior to 2025 are not subject to change.
