Emory MLK Scholars Breakfast
The Martin Luther King Jr. Scholars Breakfast Reception is a gathering for recipients of the Emory University MLK, Jr. Scholarship and celebrates MLK Jr. Scholars past and present prior to the Beloved Community Worship Service. It is open to current and alumni MLK Jr. Scholars by invitation only. Contact the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for more information.

Strength to Love: A King Week Dinner & Dialogue
Emory College students are invited to join Dean Barbara Krauthamer and other members from the ECAS Dean’s Office for a dinner and dialogue where we will explore the life and teachings of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King. The conversation will take place over a three-course meal, with each course starting with a reading of a short excerpt from Strength to Love, King’s first volume of sermons exploring love, nonviolence, and the role fear plays in sustaining racial segregation.

Distinguished King Week Speaker
Mary Frances Berry is the Geraldine R. Segal Professor of American Social Thought and Professor of History at the University of Pennsylvania. She is the author of 12 books. Berry has had a distinguished career in public service. She was a member and chair of the US Commission on Civil Rights and served as the Assistant Secretary for Education in the US Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (HEW). She has also served as provost of the University of Maryland and chancellor of the University of Colorado at Boulder. Open to the Emory community and the public. ECAS King Week Reading Group
Join us for a special Emory College book club during Emory University’s 2025 King Week, honoring the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This gathering will take place on January 23, 2005, from Noon- 1:30 PM in Candler Library 404. Ed Lee, Senior Director of Inclusivity for Emory College of Arts and Sciences, will lead our discussion on King’s inspiring book, Strength to Love. The 1963 collection of sermons speaks to the transformative power of nonviolence and love. Enjoy lunch while engaging in meaningful dialogue about the relevance of his words today. We look forward to your participation in this enriching experience!

Decatur Art and “Empathy” Walk
Saturday, January 25
Ed Lee, ECAS Senior Director of Inclusivity, and Kevin Karnes, ECAS Divisional Dean of Arts, will lead an engaging “Walk and Talk” in downtown Decatur. They will use the fantastic public artworks on McDonough Drive to inspire conversations about community, connections, the history of the civil rights movement, and public art’s role in galvanizing and sustaining social movement. Our walk will start at Decatur HS and end at the recently created John Lewis “Empathy” monument on Decatur Square. Transportation will be provided from Emory main campus and back from the event.
