Spring 2023 Course Evaluation Schedule

Spring 2023 course evaluations for undergraduate, and most graduate courses, are open for review and customization by department staff through Friday, April 14.

  • Instructors will be able to add their own customizations April 3-13
  • By default, Emory College course evaluations will open for student submission at 8 a.m. on Monday, April 17and will close at 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26 (the final Reading Day). 
  • The latest possible date for evaluation is Wednesday, May 3.

Departments are encouraged to contact the Office of the Faculty (at about staff or curricular changes that might affect their evaluation process.

The structure of evaluations will in general mirror the course structure depicted on Canvas, but instructors looking to deviate from that norm or seeking guidance on setup or customization should contact their department’s course evaluation liaison first. During staff transitions instructors can also contact the Office of the Faculty at the email address above.

2023-2024 Faculty Promotion Deadlines

Tenure Track Faculty

The 2023-2024 pre-tenure and tenure review processes begin soon. The Office of Faculty is contacting chairs about faculty who are scheduled for review during the upcoming academic year. Chairs should email by this Saturday, April 1 with the names of any additional faculty from their departments who will be completing a pre-tenure or tenure review during 2023-2024. Teaching Track Faculty

Chairs and directors should notify the Office of Faculty ( by Monday, May 1 about any teaching-track faculty members who plan to be reviewed for promotion to Associate Teaching Professor during 2023-24. More information is available here.

COACHE Survey: Deadline Extended

All full-time Emory College faculty are encouraged to complete the 2023 COACHE Faculty Satisfaction Survey using their unique link to the survey sent from one of the following emails: or If you have questions about your eligibility, contact If you accidentally deleted or cannot find the email containing your personalized survey link, contact

The survey takes 20-25 minutes and will close on Wednesday, April 12.

Faculty Activity Reports Available Now

The Online Faculty Activity Report in Interfolio Faculty 180 is now available for data entry. All Online Faculty Activity Reports in Interfolio Faculty 180 must be completed by 11:59 p.m. Sunday, April 30. No extension will be possible. Your department chair will let you know if there is an earlier deadline for activity report completion.

Chairs, directors and lead staff will receive evaluation and merit documents during the week of April 17. The packet will include:

  • Instructions for lead staff on creating faculty annual merit and performance review cases in RPT
  • Instructions for chairs on accessing Faculty Evaluation forms within Interfolio RPT
  • Instructions for chairs on accessing and using the ECAS Faculty Merit Tool
  • Staff Evaluation instructions

Faculty Activity Reporting Support Now Available

The central Facet team is offering open office hours to answer questions related to faculty activity reporting data entry in the Faculty 180 system. As needed, the team is available for 1-1 support. There are also online resources available.

Faculty Development and Funding Opportunities

Arts and Social Justice Fellows: Application Deadline Extended

The Arts and Social Justice Fellows Program is accepting faculty applications for the Fall 2023 cohort. The deadline for faculty applications has been extended to Friday, March 31.

Artist fellows work with their faculty partner to reimagine an existing course and injecting a creative approach to addressing the social justice issues surfaced within class conversations. Faculty from across Emory University may apply. Apply to the program online.

Call for Heilbrun Distinguished Emeritus Fellows

This marks the 23rd year of competition for the Heilbrun Distinguished Emeritus Fellowship. The program will support two fellowships in the amount of $10,000 each for the 2023-2024 academic year. Any faculty who has not previously received this award and have achieved emeritus status on or before September 1, 2022, are eligible to apply.

Hightower Speaker Fund Applications for Fall 2023 Events

The College is accepting Hightower Speaker Fund applications for Fall 2023 events. Hightower applications are now being accepted and reviewed by the committee on a rolling schedule. Applications received between May 15 – August 15 will be considered in the beginning of the fall semester. 

A successful Hightower Speaker Funds request is defined as follows:

  • Hightower Speaker Funds are limited to honoraria only.
  • Other funding sources, including departmental or program support, committed to the program or event must be outlined in the request.
  • The program or event promotes interdisciplinary, college-wide discussion and dialogue on important topics in a variety of fields.
  • Requestors should describe in a brief paragraph of student (undergraduate and graduate) engagement.

All requests must be submitted using the Hightower Application Form. Visit the Hightower Speaker Fund web page for additional application details.

Call for Proposals: Fund for Innovative Teaching Grant

The Center for Faculty Development and Excellence (CFDE) offers the Fund for Innovative Teaching (FIT) Grant program to support faculty teaching. FIT Grants are seed grants for longer term pedagogical transformations in the classroom which promises long-term educational effects within the Emory community.

Funds support innovative undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate teaching at Emory. Grants range from $500 to $5,000. FIT Grants are open to all full-time faculty (including tenured, non-tenure track, teaching track, clinical track, and other faculty with long-term appointments) and are available for both individual faculty members and faculty working as teams.

Only one proposal per project will be considered. Applicants must have their own Speedtype account or be connected to a department that has a Speedtype account. More information and the application can be found on the CFDE website. Applications must be submitted by Friday, April 14, 2023.

Pedagogy Mini-Grant Requests

Emory College offers mini grants to support faculty teaching. A mini grant should be used for an activity directly related to a class you are teaching during the semester. Anyone currently teaching in ECAS is eligible, including tenure-track faculty, teaching-track, adjunct faculty, visiting faculty and graduate students. The request can be up to $350. Apply online.

Undergraduate Announcements

Fall 2023 Course Registration, Advising & the New GER

The registration period for Fall 2023 classes runs through April 12. The new general education requirements will apply to students who enroll at Emory or Oxford College in Fall 2023 or later. Faculty can use the Faculty and Staff Guide to GERs in advising conversations with students.

Registration advising is scheduled to take place between until Friday, April 7. Fall registration in OPUS will take place until Wednesday, April 12.

2023 Spring Undergraduate Research Symposium: Call for Proposals

Each year during Undergraduate Research Week, Emory features the research of hundreds of students. The 2023 Spring Undergraduate Research Symposium takes place Monday, April 24 and will showcase student work from all fields, including humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, and creative and performing arts.

If you have a student or know of a student researcher interested in presenting, please encourage them to apply. Presentations can be oral or poster presentations.

Social Impact Networking Night

The Pathways Center is hosting its first local event for Emory alumni in Atlanta with a Social Impact Networking Night Monday, April 24 at the Carter Center. Registration is available for faculty on the website.

Faculty are invited to come and meet members of Emory’s growing network of alumni influencing change in social causes that matter. This business casual networking night brings together professionals and leaders in the government, policy, legal education, and nonprofit sectors. If you know of any local Emory alumni currently working in the above industry sectors, please share this event with them.

Science Gallery Atlanta JUSTICE Community Day

Science Gallery Atlanta (SGA) sponsored by the Office of Research will host Community Day Saturday, April 1, an opportunity for faculty, staff, and students to explore these and other themes related to JUSTICE, this year’s SGA exhibit.

The JUSTICE exhibition season invites researchers, artists, and audiences to contemplate and reimagine some of the current big ideas in our society that have local and global impact—criminal justice, labor practices, transit, climate change, housing, food access, health inequity, data agency, and more. 

Shuttle service from Emory Campus to Science Gallery Atlanta and back will be available. Each guest will also receive a ticket for free food from local vendors (while supplies last). Reserve your spot.
