Welcome and congratulations on your acceptance to Emory College of Arts and Sciences!
The International Student Welcome (ISW) is a special pre-orientation program designed for students that have grown up primarily or exclusively outside the United States. Incoming first-year and transfer students attending Emory on an F1 visa are required to attend. Incoming students who are green card holders, dual citizens, and who attended high school abroad are also invited to attend. The ISW provides these students with additional information not included in general orientation that we feel will help them transition more easily to Emory and life in the U.S.
In addition to the student program, we also run a special two-day program for the parents and families of incoming international students.
The student ISW program will be held from Monday, August 15, 2022 through Thursday, August 18, 2022. Move-in day will be Monday, August 15. More details about Move-in will be emailed to students as they are finalized.
The dates for the Parent and Family ISW Program are Wednesday, August 17 and Thursday, August 18, 2022.
Registration for ISW has now closed.
The student program is required for all incoming first-year and transfer students attending Emory on an F1 visa. Because international identity is not necessarily defined by citizenship, we welcome green card holders, dual citizens, and those who attended high school abroad, but it is not required for these students.
The parent and family program is optional.
Yes, there is a $240 fee to attend the student ISW program. This fee covers food and other costs associated with the program. It will be charged to your student account in the fall semester.
There is no fee for parents and families to attend their program.
ISW participants will be assigned to a small group led by 2 Academic Fellow mentors that will guide them through the programming each day and will also serve as mentors throughout the Fall 2022 semester. Academic Fellows are current students who have been trained to provide support and guidance for incoming international students.
If you have additional questions about the ISW, please contact Frank Gaertner (fgaertn@emory.edu).
