International Student Welcome

Welcome and congratulations on your acceptance to Emory College of Arts and Sciences!

What is International Student Welcome?

The International Student Welcome (ISW) is a pre-orientation program specially designed for students that have grown up primarily or exclusively outside the United States. The ISW aims to connect international students and students of an international background to campus resources and the Emory community – with the hopes of smoothing the transition to life at Emory and life in the U.S. The 2023 ISW runs from Monday, August 14 through Thurday, August 17.

The ISW is mandatory for all incoming first-year and transfer international students on an F-1 visa. Incoming first-year green card holders, exchange students, dual citizens who are living abroad, and U.S. citizens who have attended high school abroad are invited and encouraged to attend.

In addition to the student program, we also run a special two-day program for parents and families of incoming international students on Wednesday, August 16 and Thursday, August 17.

The Parent and Family ISW program is optional. Parents and families of ISW participants can register here.

There is a $240 fee for ISW that will be charged to your student account in early July to cover the costs of this program. These fees may be waived for students with scholarships. Fees may not be waived if you are on an F-1 visa and unable to attend.

If you arrive after August 14, you will still be charged the full ISW fee of $240.

There is no fee for parents and family members to attend the Parent and Family ISW Program.

Move-In, Housing, & Airport Pickup

We provide transportation to pick up students from the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport directly to Emory campus in Atlanta on Monday, August 14 between the hours of 8:00am and 9:15pm ESTonly.

If you plan to arrive outside of these dates and times, you will need to arrange for your own transportation to campus. We will provide more information closer to move-in on how to use a taxi, Uber, or Lyft to get to campus.

Students can move into their Residence Hall as early as Monday, August 14 at 9am. If you arrive before August 14, you may need to arrange your own housing as well.
