Douglass-O'Connell Global Internship


APPLICATION DEADLINE: NOVEMBER 29, 2024

Twelve exceptional student leaders will be selected for a fully-funded transformative summer internship program in Dublin, Ireland, where they will draw inspiration from the legacies of two remarkable social justice leaders: Frederick Douglass and Daniel O'Connell.  

During this unique eight-week program, Douglass-O’Connell Global Interns will spend June 13 to August 9, 2025 in a fully immersive internship at an Irish organization and accompanying academic seminar. During extracurricular activities throughout the program, the interns will also participate in a special exploration of the influence Daniel O’Connell had on Frederick Douglass and their lifetime legacies as successful businessmen and leaders of social change.

Students seeking a rich international experience that combines real-world work experience in Ireland with an exciting overview of Irish history and culture are encouraged to apply.

Open to: Be a current undergraduate freshman, sophomore, or junior from an accredited institution

  • a demonstrated record of commitment to minority rights and social justice
  • evidence of significant leadership potential
  • an outstanding academic record
  • personal traits including flexibility, maturity, self-reliance, entrepreneurship, and social maturity 
Douglass-O’Connell Global Interns will be selected based on their demonstrated interest in gaining real-world work experience in Ireland; their desire to emulate the business acumen and social justice reform of Frederick Douglass and Daniel O’Connell; their values in equality, entrepreneurship, and advocacy; and their commitment to pursuing a better, more inclusive world.
