History
While at Emory, Chris was an Emory Scholar and a member of Phi Eta Sigma and Phi Alpha Theta. He was active in the Emory Pre-Law Society, Emory Young Democrats, and Intramural Soccer, and served as a Student Ambassador Homecoming Host, a PACE Leader, and Managing Editor of the Emory Journal of International Affairs. Chris also received the Best Emory German Department 200-level Student Award.
Q: What experiences at Emory prepared you for the Fulbright?
A: I will remain forever grateful to the staff of the Emory National Scholarships and Fellowships Office for their help during the application process, which was a truly invaluable resource.
Q: What memorable or interesting things happened during your Fulbright experience?
A: There have been so many things I cannot even begin to list them all. I have been able to participate in traditional dances, meet extraordinary people, eat new food, etc. If you want to learn more about what the Fulbright Program in Indonesia does, I urge you to check out indonesiaful.com, which documents some of the amazing things our program is doing. Frankly, every day is a new and interesting adventure full of surprises.
Q: How did the Fulbright experience impact your academic/ career path?
A: My Fulbright experience opened my eyes to another world. While I don’t plan to live in Indonesia forever, I will always appreciate the people, culture, and language.
Q: What advice would you give current Fulbright applicants?
A: Don’t apply just because you think it will look good on your résumé. Make sure you are passionate and prepared whether you are applying to the ETA or R/S program. This is especially true if you are going to a less developed country.
