Biography

Bridget Hansen is the Assistant Director of the National Scholarships and Fellowships Program at Emory University. Combining appreciative advising with extensive experience applying for scholarships herself, Bridget brings a compassionate, insider perspective to her advising and mentoring. She aims to empower students through professional and personal exploration and development via the scholarship application model.

As an undergraduate, Bridget studied Arabic in Jordan with the support of the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship and in Oman with the Critical Language Scholarship program, as well as completed a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship (ETA) Grant in Bahrain. Her graduate research explored cross-cultural psychiatry and psychiatric education in the Sultanate of Oman, and was supported by the NSF GRFP, Society for Psychological Anthropology Robert Lemelson Foundation, a Phi Kappa Phi Graduate Fellowship Award, and a Fulbright Research-Study Grant.

Drawing on her extensive experience with international education, Bridget created and leads the NS&FP’s Fulbright Bootcamp Program, which runs for 3 weeks in the Maymester and for 6 weeks virtually in the summer. She has also taught ANT 331 Cross-Cultural Issues in Mental Health and ECS 101: Emory Essentials, and presented on Empathetic Advising and Emory’s Fulbright Bootcamp model at professional conferences. She also served on the Technology, Publications, and Communications committee for the National Association of Fellowships Advisors and on the Communications Committee for the Emory Disability Employee Network (EDEN).

In her spare time, Bridget enjoys reading novels, creative writing, playing guitar and video games, and baking.
