Adam Diller completed his Ph.D. in Film and Media Arts at Temple University in 2021. Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2026, he held a position at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. Professor Diller’s films, sound works, and scholarship focus on relationships between humans, environments, and media. His films have screened at venues including Anthology Film Archives, Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, and Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival. He was recently the recipient of a National Endowment for the Humanities “Dangers and Opportunities of Technology” grant for his work on Google’s first hyperscale data center.

Matthew Ellis completed his PhD in Cellular & Molecular Physiology at Yale University (2022). Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2026, Professor Ellis was an IRACDA Postdoctoral Fellow at UCSD. His research focuses on using patient-derived stem cells to model and treat cardiovascular disease. His articles have been published in journals including Circulation: Heart Failure and Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology. He was also the recipient of both pre- and post-doctoral NRSAs from the NIH for this work.

Robert Garlick completed his PhD in Economics and public policy at the University of Michigan (2013). Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2026, he held positions at Duke and the World Bank. Professor Garlick’s research focuses on employment, education, and productivity in developing economies. His articles have been published in a number of leading journals including the American Economic Review and Review of Economic Studies. He has also been the recipient of multiple National Science Foundation grants and funding from major multilateral and bilateral development agencies. 

Andres Gonzalez Socorro completed his PhD. in chemistry at Emory University (2026). Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2026, he held positions at Oglethorpe University as an Adjunct Instructor. Professor Gonzalez Socorro research focuses on cryoEM studies of protein assemblies in archaea. His articles have been published in a number of leading journals including Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and Nature Communications. He was also the recipient of the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (2024).

Michael Hallquist completed his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at SUNY Binghamton in 2009. Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2026, Professor Hallquist held faculty positions at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Pennsylvania State University, and the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Hallquist’s research seeks to explain individual differences in personality and psychopathology in terms of the neural and computational processes that give rise to them. His articles have been published in a number of leading journals, including Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Trends in Cognitive Sciences, and Science Advances. He has also been the recipient of multiple National Institute of Mental Health research grants, including a Biobehavioral Research Awards for Innovative New Scientists (BRAINS) R01 award. 

Alexa Iannitelli completed her Ph.D. in Neuroscience at Emory University in 2023. Prior to joining Emory as an Assistant Teaching Professor in 2026, Professor Iannitelli held a position as a visiting assistant professor at Emory University. Her research focuses on neurodegenerative diseases, neuromelanin, and environmental neuroscience. Her articles have been published in a number of leading journals including Psychopharmacology, eNeuro, and Neuroscience Biobehavioral Review. She was also the recipient of the NIH Bluerprint D-SPAND Award in 2022-2023 and the Emory Advanced Graduate Teaching Fellowship in 2021-2022. 

Ji-Eun Lee completed her Ph.D. in East Asian Languages and Civilizations at Harvard University (2006). Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2026, Professor Lee served as Dean's Distinguished Professorial Scholar and Associate Professor of Korean Language and Literature at Washington University in St. Louis.  Dr. Lee's research focuses on Korean literature and women's literary traditions from the 19^th Century to contemporary Korea. Her publications include Women Pre-Scripted: Forging Modern Roles through Korean Print (2015), Korean Sinitic Poetry from Ancient Times to 1945: Si in the East (Co-edited with McCann and Lee, 2024), and a translation of the prize-winning novel I Met Loh Kiwan by Cho Haejin (2019). She was also the recipient of grants from the Academy of Korean Studies (2019) and the Literature Translation Institute of Korea (2015, 2009).

Eugenia H. Rho completed her PhD in Informatics at the University of California, Irvine (2020). Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2026, Professor Rho was an assistant professor of computer science at Virginia Tech and a postdoctoral researcher in computer science at Stanford University. Her research combines human-computer interaction and multi-agent simulations to understand how people and AI systems interact in high-stakes contexts and to design technologies that support social interaction. Her work has been published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, CHI, and EMNLP. She is the recipient of an ACM CHI Best Paper Honorable Mention Award and has received research funding from the World Health Consortium and the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative. 

Eric Sanday completed his Ph.D. in Philosophy at Pennsylvania State University in 2003. Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2026, Dr. Sanday held positions at the University of Kentucky, Marquette University, and Vanderbilt University.  Professor Sanday’s research focuses on ancient Greek philosophy, especially Plato, dialectic, metaphysics, and the ways ancient texts train readers to examine the assumptions and limits of philosophical inquiry. He is the author of A Study of Dialectic in Plato’s Parmenides and co-editor, with Sean D. Kirkland, of Companion to Ancient Greek Philosophy. His chapters and articles have appeared in venues including Inquiring into Being: Essays on Parmenides, the Proceedings of the Boston Area Colloquium in Ancient Philosophy, Chôra, and the Graduate Faculty Philosophy Journal.

Hiroshi Shiozaki completed his PhD in Engineering at Osaka University (2011). Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2027, Professor Shiozaki held positions at RIKEN Center for Brain Science, HHMI Janelia Research Campus, and Stowers Institute for Medical Research. His research focuses on how neural circuits evolve across species and how these changes give rise to species-specific behaviors. His articles have been published in a number of leading journals including Nature Neuroscience and Neuron.

Paul Townend completed his PhD in Computer Science at the University of Leeds (2006). Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2026, Professor Townend has held positions as CTO of a start-up in the data center sector and at Umeå University. His research aims to reduce the power, carbon and water impact of data centers and other large-scale computing systems. His work has been published in leading journals including Future Generation Computer Systems and IEEE Computer. He has been the recipient of research grants including from Horizon Europe and WASP Sweden. 

Dishita Turakhia completed her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2024). Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2026, Dr. Turakhia held a faculty position at New York University's Department of Computer Science. Dr. Turakhia's research focus is at the intersection of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Learning Sciences, specifically on designing systems of physical skill learning with extended reality (XR/AR/VR) applications for creative making, manufacturing and medical training. Her articles have been published in a number of leading journals including ACM CHI, UIST and IEEE ISMAR. She is a recipient of a recent NSF grant, the EECS Rising Stars recognition, and the Meta PhD Fellowship.

Weihong Xu completed her PhD in Mathematics at Rutgers University (2022). Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2026, Professor Xu held positions at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University as well as the California Institute of Technology. Her research focuses on problems in enumerative geometry and their connections to combinatorics and physics. Her articles have been published in a number of leading journals including International Mathematics Research Notices (IMRN), Selecta Mathematica, and Epijournal de Géométrie Algébrique (EPIGA).
