Emory College welcomes 26 new faculty members this fall, reflecting ambitious recruitment and hiring across the sciences, social sciences, humanities, and the arts. The highly accomplished cohort will help advance Emory College’s liberal arts mission with the pursuit of new knowledge, ground-breaking research with high impact, and innovative teaching for our students.
The College also celebrates several faculty members who have been promoted to named chair appointments, associate and full professors with tenure, and promotions to teaching and associate teaching professors.
Meet Our New Faculty
Lina Andonovska
Assistant Professor,
Music
Lina Andonovska completed her PhD in Philosophy and Music at Dublin City University (2024). Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2025, Dr. Andonovska held guest lecturer positions at the University of Texas at Austin, Trinity College Dublin, Ohio State University, and Yale Department of Music. Dr. Andonovska’s musical focus is on contemporary music and interpreting new and experimental music. She is an active soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player, who has performed with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra and is a member of the Grammy award-winning ensemble, Eight Blackbird. She released her debut solo album, “Nahoft” in 2024 with PARMA Recordings.
Jason Ashe
Assistant Professor,

Jason Ashe completed his PhD in Community Psychology and Behavioral Medicine at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) (2023) and completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Epidemiology and Population Sciences at the National Institutes of Health. Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2025, Dr. Ashe held positions at UMBC and the Association of American Medical Colleges. Dr. Ashe’s research focuses on how religion and spirituality influence biological health and disease risk among Black Americans and older adults. His articles have been published in a number of leading journals including Biopsychosocial Science and Medicine, the Journal of Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities, and Health Psychology. He was also the recipient of the Health Policy Research Scholars fellowship program sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Montie Avery
Assistant Professor,
Mathematics
Montie Avery completed his PhD in Mathematics at the University of Minnesota (2022). Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2025, Dr. Avery held a position at Boston University. Dr. Avery's research focuses on pattern formation in physical systems, nonlinear wave propagation, and the dynamics of partial differential equations. His articles have been published in a number of leading journals including the Communications of the American Mathematical Society, the Journal of the European Mathematical Society, and the Archive for Rational Mechanics and Analysis. He was also the recipient of an NSF graduate research fellowship and an NSF postdoctoral research fellowship.
Martha Barker
Assistant Teaching Professor,
Computer Science
Martha Barker completed her PhD in Computer Science at Columbia University (2025). Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2025, Dr. Barker held positions as a Graduate Research Assistant and an SEAS Teaching Fellow (Fall 2024) at Columbia University. Dr. Barker’s research focuses on using dataflow representation to facilitate accelerator design. Her article shave been published in a number of peer reviewed conferences including Proceedings of Field Programmable Logic and Applications and ACM Transactions on Embedded Computing Systems. She also received the Andrew P. Kosoresow Memorial Award for Excellence in Teaching and Service in 2025.
Matthew Chin
Assistant Professor,
Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies
Matthew Chin completed his PhD in Anthropology and Social Work at the University of Michigan (2016). Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2025, Dr. Chin held positions at Fordham University and the University of Virginia. Dr. Chin’s research engages feminist and queer histories of race across the Caribbean and Asia to explore the relationship between geography and epistemology. His articles have been published in a number of leading journals including Public Culture, Small Axe, and Interventions. He has also received visiting fellowships by the University of Connecticut Humanities Institute, and the Institute for Chinese Studies at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Subhasish Das

Subhasish Das completed his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering at Arizona State University (2022). Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2025, Dr. Das held positions at University of Texas at San Antonio and Dell Technologies. Dr. Das’ research focuses on machine learning and statistical signal processing and their application to the field of time series and predictive analytics. His articles have been published in a number of leading peer- reviewed conferences including ASILOMAR, IAAI and ICMLA.
Letian Dou

Letian Dou completed his PhD in Materials Science at University of California, Los Angles (2014). Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2025, Dr. Dou held positions at Purdue University as the Charles Davidson Associate Professor. Dr. Dou’s research focuses on novel hybrid materials for next generation optoelectronics and polymers for sustainable plastics. His research articles have been published in a number of leading journals including Science, Nature Families, and Journal of the American Chemical Society.
Suchismita Dutta
Assistant Teaching Professor,
Emory Writing Program
Suchismita Dutta completed her PhD in English at the University of Miami (2021). Prior to joining the faculty at Emory, Dr. Dutta held positions at the University of Tampa and Georgia Tech. Dr. Dutta's research focuses on representation and access in critical pedagogy with a particular emphasis on multimodal writing. Her articles have been published in a number of leading journals including [Inter]Sections- The American Studies Journal and Impost: A Journal of Creative and Critical Work. She was also the recipient of the 2025 4C's Scholars for the Dream Travel Award and has been recognized as an Emerging Scholar in the field of general education by Boston University's College of General Studies in 2021.
Ali Emami
Assistant Professor,
Computer Science
Ali Emami completed his PhD in Computer Science at McGill University (2021). Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2025, Dr. Emami held a position at Brock University in Canada. Dr. Emami's research focuses on natural language processing, specifically exploring advanced reasoning capabilities in large language models and innovative benchmarking methods. His work has been published in leading journals and conferences, including ACL, EMNLP, and NAACL. His recent honors include the 2024 Faculty of Mathematics and Sciences Excellence in Teaching Award at Brock University, the EMNLP 2024 Social Impact Paper Award, and the COLING 2025 Best Dataset Paper Award. His research has been supported by grants from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council and the New Frontiers in Research Fund.
Zhichun Guo
Assistant Professor,
Computer Science
Zhichun Guo completed her PhD in Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Notre Dame in 2024. Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2025, Dr. Guo held positions at the University of Washington. Dr. Guo’s research focuses on advancing machine learning and artificial intelligence methods, with particular emphasis on AI for science, large language models, and graph learning. Her articles have been published in a number of leading conferences and journals including International Conference on Machine Learning, Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems, and AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence. She was also the recipient of the Snap Research Fellowship in 2022.
Nathan Hoffmann
Assistant Professor,
Sociology
Nathan Hoffmann completed his PhD in Sociology at the University of California, Los Angeles (2025). Using the cases of education and sexuality, Dr. Hoffmann studies how state policies and other international institutions affect social outcomes for immigrants. His articles have been published in a number of leading journals including Social Forces, International Migration Review, and Population Research and Policy Review.
Abigail Julian
Assistant Teaching Professor,
Computer Science
Abbey Julian completed her PhD in Computer Science and Informatics at Emory University (2024). Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2025, Dr. Julian held a position at Emory as a visiting assistant professor. Dr. Julian’s research focuses on innovations in teaching introductory programming and the analysis of student mastery of technical programming skills. She was also the recipient of a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship (2021) and the Laney Graduate School Outstanding Teaching Associate Award (2023).
Youngjoong Kwon
Assistant Professor,
Computer Science
Youngjoong Kwon completed her PhD in Computer Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2023). Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2025, Dr. Kwon held positions at Stanford University and Carnegie Mellon University. Dr. Kwon’s research interests include human digitization, 3D/4D reconstruction, generative AI, and human-centric applications. Her articles have been published in a number of leading journals including ECCV, NeurIPS, and ICLR. She was also the recipient of the HumanTech Paper Award (2022).
Yick Hin Ling
Assistant Professor,
Biology
Y. Hin Ling completed his PhD in Biological Sciences at The University of Hong Kong (2018). Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2026, Dr. Ling held a position at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Ling's research focuses on the spatiotemporal regulation of gene expression in living cells with single-molecule imaging. His articles have been published in a number of leading journals including Nature Cell Biology and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. He was also the recipient of the Croucher Fellowship for Postdoctoral Research.
Milivoje Lukić
Professor,
Mathematics
Milivoje Lukić completed his PhD Mathematics at the California Institute of Technology (2011).
Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2025, Dr. Lukić held positions at Rice University and the
University of Toronto. Dr. Lukić’s research focuses on analysis and mathematical physics. His
articles have been published in a number of leading journals including Inventiones Mathematicae, Duke Mathematical Journal, and Advances in Mathematics. He was also the recipient of NSF Grants (2022-2025, 2017-2022, and 2013-2017).
Andrew Lyons
Assistant Teaching Professor,
Mathematics
Andrew Lyons completed his PhD in Mathematics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2025). Dr. Lyons’ research focuses on elliptic eigenvalue problems over moving domains. His work has been published in articles such as Annales Mathématiques du Québec. He was also a recipient of the Tanner Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching (2025).
André Patrão
Assistant Professor,
Art History
André Patrão completed his PhD in History, Theory, and Criticism of Architecture at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) (2020). Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in Spring of 2025, Dr. Patrão held positions at ETH Zürich, Yale University, and EPFL. Dr. Patrão’s research focuses on moments of exchange between architects and philosophers from the early 20th century to today, while his most recent work tackles contemporary issues of the built environment within a framework that combines ethics, aesthetics, and political philosophy. His articles have been published in a number of leading journals including Architecture Philosophy, Architecture and Culture, and Khōrein. He was also the recipient of the Postdoc Mobility grant awarded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).
Temiloluwa Prioleau

Computer Science
Temiloluwa Prioleau completed her PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology (2016). Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2025, Dr. Prioleau held positions at Dartmouth College and Rice University. Dr. Prioleau's research focuses on digital and computational health, human behavior sensing, mobile/wearable technology, and data science/machine learning. Her work has been published in a number of leading interdisciplinary journals including Science Advances, npj Digital Medicine, and IEEE Transactions of Biomedical Engineering. She is also the recipient of research grants from the National Science Foundation and National Institute of Health.
Justin Tyler (JT) Pynne

Environmental Sciences
JT Pynne completed his PhD in Forestry, Wildlife, and Natural Resources at the University of Georgia (2020). Prior to joining the faculty at Emory, Dr. Pynne held positions at public and private agencies. Dr. Pynne's research focuses on the interconnection of wildlife, forestry, natural resources, and their importance. His articles have been published in a number of leading journals, including Southeastern Naturalist, Endangered Species Research, and Forest Ecology and Management. He was also the recipient of several major southeastern longleaf pine restoration grants.
Rohini Ramadas
Assistant Professor,
Mathematics
Rohini Ramadas completed their M.Sc. in Biology at the National Center for Biological Sciences, Bangalore (2012), and their Ph.D. in Mathematics at The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor (2017). Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2025, Dr. Ramadas held positions at Harvard University, Brown University, and the University of Warwick. Dr. Ramadas’s research is in the areas of algebraic geometry and complex dynamics, with a focus on moduli spaces and degenerations. They were the recipient of an NSF Postdoctoral Fellowship and an EPSRC New Investigator Award.
Keith Robinson

Keith Robinson completed his PhD in Economics at The Ohio State University (1994). Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2025, Dr. Robinson spent over 30 years as a private sector business and economics consultant. Dr. Robinson was a Principal at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, where he spent over 25 years, until his retirement in June 2024. Dr. Robinson has also been on the Visiting Faculty in the Department of Economics at Emory for the prior seven years. Dr. Robinson has spent his professional career solving taxation-related economic issues for global multinational corporations. As part of his new role at Emory, Dr. Robinson will serve as the Economics Department Director of Professional and Placement (for Master’s Programs).
Peter Sentz

Data and Decision Sciences
Peter Sentz completed his PhD in Computer Science at The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (2022). Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2025, Dr. Sentz held a position at Brown University. Dr. Sentz's research focuses on model order reduction and scientific machine learning for differential equations. His articles have been published in a number of leading journals including SIAM Journal on Scientific Computing and Foundations of Data Science.
Robert Silversmith

Rob Silversmith completed their PhD in Mathematics at the University of Michigan (2017). Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2025, Dr. Silversmith held positions at the University of Warwick, Northeastern University, and the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics (Stony Brook). Dr. Silversmith’s research focuses on combinatorial problems arising in geometry. Their articles have been published in leading journals including Transactions of the American Mathematical Society, Selecta Mathematica, and Mathematische Zeitschrift.
Laura van Holstein
Assistant Professor,
Anthropology
Laura van Holstein completed her PhD in Biological Anthropology at the University of Cambridge (2021). Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2025, Dr. van Holstein held positions at the University of Cambridge. Dr. van Holstein’s research focuses on understanding human evolution in its broader vertebrate context. Her articles have been published in a number of leading journals including Nature Ecology & Evolution, Nature Communications, and Proceedings of the Royal Society B. She was also the recipient of a Leakey Foundation Postdoctoral Research Grant and a Junior Research Fellowship at Clare College, Cambridge.
Anna Wehrwein

Film and Media/Visual Arts
Anna Wehrwein completed her MFA in Painting/Drawing Art at the University of Tennessee (2017). Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2025, Professor Wehrwein held a position at the University of Missouri. Professor Wehrwein’s creative research explores the shared language of personal and color relationships and the intertwining of painting histories, personal narrative, figuration and abstraction. Her work has been exhibited widely, with exhibitions at Pentimenti Gallery, Troost Gardens, and Kniznick Gallery at Brandeis University, among other venues. She has been awarded residencies at Vermont Studio Center, Virginia Center for Creative Arts, Anderson Ranch Art Center, and MacDowell.
Zirui (Tony) Yang

Political Science
Tony Yang completed his PhD in Political Science at Washington University (2024). Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2025, Dr. Yang held positions at Washington University. Dr. Yang’s research interests authoritarian politics, political communication, public opinion, China, conflicts, LGBTQ politics, computational methods, experiments, and survey methods. His work has been published in a number of leading journals including Political Science Research and Methods, The Journal of Politics, and Comparative Political Studies. He is also the recipient of the 2025 American Political Science Association Thomas E. Patterson Best Dissertation Award in Political Communication.
