Dennis Liotta, PhD

A global leader in drug discovery and development, a successful entrepreneur, and a visionary leader. Most notably, he is the co-inventor of two of the most important HIV drugs, emtricitabine and lamivudine, which are used by more than 90% of HIV-infected patients. He has also pioneered new approaches to drug development in academia, including co-founding Drug Innovation Ventures at Emory (DRIVE) and the Center for New Medicines. While Dr. Liotta’s biggest impact has come from the HIV/AIDS therapeutics he developed, he has also made important contributions to other therapeutic areas, such as neurological diseases and oncology, creating many clinical therapeutic agents to improve human health. He actively collaborates with many renowned researchers, including Dr. Gavegnano, on developing innovative solutions for brain health and other medical challenges.
