Applicants must:

  • Be African-American (Black)
  • Have a GPA of 3.3 or higher

The UNCF/ MERCK Scholarship is designed to increase the number of African-American students pursuing careers in scientific research. Scholars receive funding to support educational costs for senior year, and research internships at Merck facilities in the summers after their junior and senior years. Applicants must have outstanding academic records, commitment to a career in scientific research or engineering, and previous laboratory experience.

Eligible majors/fields include: Aerospace Engineering, Agriculture, Animal Science, Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Biomedical Research, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Comp Biology, Ecology, Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science(s), Forestry, Kinesiology, Material Science, Mathematical Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, Medicine, Microbiology, Pharmacy, Physical Sciences, Pre-Medicine, Pre-Pharmacy, Pre-vet, Psychology, Science, and Science Technology.
