Save the Date: Faculty Meeting with President Sterk April 4

Emory University President Claire Sterk will host a meeting for all Emory College faculty Wednesday, April 4, from 4-5:30 p.m. in 208 White Hall. The meeting will feature a Q&A format to provide an opportunity for Emory College faculty to speak with President Sterk about areas of concern and interest.

College Evaluation and Merit Process

The Emory College of Arts & Sciences Faculty and Staff evaluation and merit process will open Friday, March 23, when the Online Faculty Activity Report System (OFARS) becomes available. OFARS Instructions will be sent to department chairs, directors and lead staff March 22. Detailed evaluation documents will be distributed to chairs, directors, and lead staff April 5.

Undergraduate Admissions Department Outreach Letters Due March 9

Emory College’s Directors of Undergraduate Studies are invited to provide letters of welcome to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions for admitted students who have expressed an interest in individual departments or programs.

Several departments have participated in this admissions recruitment effort in recent years, which makes a difference in the decision of the best students to select Emory, and helps recruit a diverse and talented class. If you need a copy of a letter previously sent from your department, or a template and letter samples to compose an email for admitted students, contact Beverly Clark, director of communications for Emory College. Send completed letters to Beverly Clark by Friday, March 9.

OISP Online Course Proposals Due March 23

The Office of International and Summer Programs is now accepting applications for courses to be offered as Emory College Online (ECO) courses in summer 2019. Faculty proposing online courses should complete the course proposal form online. Emory College Online course proposals should be submitted electronically by Friday, March 23. OISP expects to confirm the slate of new 2019 Emory College Online courses by early April 2018.

Selected faculty members will partner with the OISP during summer 2018 to adapt their course to the online platform through an eight-week online course, Emory College Online Teaching Strategies (ECOTS). The final stages of course development will occur during the fall of 2018 and spring of 2019. Faculty developing ECO courses will receive a $5,000 salary supplement for developing the course and agreeing to teach it in summer 2019.

PERS Applications Due March 20

The Program to Enhance Research and Scholarship (PERS) invites proposals from Emory College faculty for seed funding to: support new research, research travel, and other research related activities; for bridge funding; and for matches for equipment grants. A limited amount of funding also is available to presenters at international and national research conferences when the conference presentation will likely seed new research, and in those areas where such funding is not available through external grants.

Cascade Basic Training for New Users

The Emory College Office of Communications is hosting several basic Cascade 8 web training sessions this spring for staff and faculty website administrators. These sessions are especially good for people new to website work or who need a refresher.

Cascade Basic Training for Beginners

  • April 17, 2-4 p.m.

All classes take place in Room 314, Woodruff Library, Electronic Classroom (across from the Jones Room). Register for the class on the Emory College Office of Communications website. Contact senior web producer Jill Hennecy with any questions about the training.

Inclusive Pedagogy Resources from CFDE

The Center for Faculty Development and Excellence maintains a database of key topics and current debates related to inclusive pedagogy. This database has been updated and includes resources for topics such as microaggressions, implicit bias, trigger warnings, safe spaces, and academic freedom/free speech.
