Dear Emory College Community,

Last night, several Emory spaces were vandalized with horrific and hateful phrases. I am absolutely appalled by these actions. I roundly condemn this vandalism and hateful speech, which only further divides and hurts us more, and moves us further away from a deliberative solution to our collective challenges.

These actions are diametrically opposed to our commitment to create teaching and learning environments where students, faculty, and staff remain in dialogue about and across our differences while finding ways to leverage our talents in service to all of humanity. The recent events on campus have left many of us grieving and struggling. It is essential in this moment that we maintain dialogue, understanding, and compassion for all members of our community. While open expression and peaceful protest are a vital part of who we are as a community, let me be clear that hateful speech in any form has absolutely no place in our community.

My team is working closely with campus partners to ensure the safety and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff. Please continue to check your email or the Emory College homepage for updates regarding classes, finals, and graduation. We will communicate information to you as soon as we can.

Sincerely,

Barbara Krauthamer

Dean, Emory College of Arts and Science
