Dear Students,

The events of the last 24 hours have been immensely difficult and challenging for us all. I have heard from many of you, and I am saddened and dismayed by what happened and am profoundly concerned about the safety and well-being of our community.

I am grateful to the students, staff, and faculty who contacted me throughout the day and night with offers to support our students and entire community. I know that you have many questions and concerns about yesterday and about what the days ahead hold for us all. We must make sense of these events and the traumas experienced by members of our community this week and throughout this past year. I remain confident in our ability to work together and, over time, mend the rifts that have divided our college.

As we work to navigate the remaining days of the semester, please know the Emory College administration, and our faculty and staff are here to support you. We understand that while you are processing yesterday’s distressing events, you are also wrapping up classes, presenting final projects, studying for final exams, and preparing for graduation. Below is essential information regarding classes, finals and available resources.

We currently expect that Monday classes will be held in person. There are no plans to alter the final exam schedule at this time. You should expect all campus buildings to remain accessible with your Emory ID. We will keep you updated if the situation changes over the weekend and early next week.

At this time, there are no changes expected for Commencement and the College graduation ceremony. Information is subject to change depending on circumstances and any possible shifts will be communicated as quickly as possible.

Support Services

Should you need any academic accommodations, please contact your advisor directly or email Oue.advising@emory.edu. Both online and in-person appointments are available.

If you or any of your friends or classmates need support beyond the classroom, a full list of resources is available here. In particular, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is available 24-7. You can call CAPS (404-727-7450) and speak immediately with a mental health professional to identify needs, get support, and help develop a plan for next steps.

As we get through these difficult days, I encourage us all to give each other grace, compassion and space as we work to finish the spring semester. Please take care of yourselves and each other and don’t hesitate to reach out to anyone in the College for support.

Sincerely,

Barbara Krauthamer
Dean, Emory College of Arts and Sciences
Professor of History
