Standards for Virtual Addresses of Web Sites
Departments and programs with FAS account numbers may obtain an address of http://deptname.emory.edu, pursuant to restrictions noted below.
Goals:
- to maintain College and departmental branding
- to limit technical overhead of proliferation of virtual addresses
- to accord with current research on how users navigate and remember web addresses
All requests for URLs MUST be approved by the College Web Team and the University.
Emory College administration sites shall fall under http://college.emory.edu and will be folded into the College’s current look and feel.
Per university policy, generic or abstract virtual server names (e.g., http://education.emory.edu) are prohibited and each group receives only one domain name.
Individual faculty sites and group sites will be located within department sites (e.g., http://chemistry.emory.edu/labs/lynngroup or http://english.emory.edu/faculty/morey), and must be approved by the College Web Team.
