Teaching Award Nominations
The College Office of Faculty and CTC are currently soliciting nominations for the 2008 Emory Williams and CTC teaching awards. These awards are made annually in each of the three divisions and are presented at Commencement in May. Winners are selected by a committee of previous award winners.
To begin the selection process, we invite nominations for these prestigious awards from any member of the Emory College faculty. We especially encourage joint nominations and nominations from departments and programs. Your ONE-PAGE nomination letter justifying the nomination should include specific information about the nominee’s teaching. Send a hard copy or an electronic copy of your letter to the address below by Wednesday, February 20th.
We will contact all of the nominees and their department chairs to notify them of the nomination. If nominees wish to be considered for this award, we will ask them to provide a current C.V., a two-page teaching statement, a recent three-year run of the summaries of course evaluations for all College courses, and any other supplemental information related to teaching that they wish the selection committee to consider. Nominations that are not chosen for the award this year will be held and reconsidered for three years.
Please take time to identify people most deserving of these important honors. If you have questions, contact either Cris Levenduski (cmleven@emory.edu) or Patrick Allitt (pallitt@learnlink.emory.edu).
Deadline: February 20, 2008
Cuttino Award Nominations
The College Office is currently accepting nominations from any member of the Emory College faculty. This award is named in honor of the late George Peddy Cuttino, a member of our history department from 1952 to 1984, who was known among several generations of Emory students not only as a teacher, but also as a guide and counselor beyond the classroom. The successful recipient of this prestigious award should exhibit a similar record of exceptional mentoring of students.
Your one page nomination letter should include specific information about the nominee’s record as a mentor. Send a hard copy or an electronic copy of your letter to Siân Morgan at the address below by Wednesday, February 20th. Nominations that are not chosen for the award this year will be held and reconsidered for three years.

Emory College Associate Professor Completion Leaves
The College is once again offering a limited number of competitive leave opportunities for Associate Professors who have a major project nearing completion. These one-semester leaves, funded by the College, are intended for Associate Professors who have been in rank at least four years and who will be able to use this semester to complete a major piece of scholarship that will help to make a strong case for promotion. These leaves are not intended to take the place of externally funded leaves, and they may be combined with externally funded leaves to create a full-year's leave. They may not, however, be combined with a regular sabbatical or with any leave that requires major funding from the College. As with all leaves funded by the College, applicants must agree to return to Emory for at least one year following the leave.
Applications for Associate Professor Completion Leaves should include a 2-3 page description of your project that includes specific details about the progress you've already made on this project and a schedule for completion. Your application should also include a list of your recent leaves, and a brief letter of support from your Chair attesting to the progress you've already made and explaining the department's plan for covering your courses during the leave. Applications for leaves during the2008-2009 academic year are due January 18, 2008. They should be sent to Susan Lee, College Office, 400 Candler Library or electronically to her at susan.lee@emory.edu.
If you have questions about this opportunity, please contact Dean Cristine Levenduski at cristine.levenduski@emory.edu or by phone at 7-6059.
