Academic Updates

As pre-registration for the Fall 2020 semester approaches, we wanted to take this opportunity to let you know about a change to the PE general education requirement for students who will be enrolled in the fall. Additionally, we wanted to highlight some reminders and upcoming dates.

Changes to PE General Education Requirement
Although some PE courses will be scheduled during the next academic year (and there will be other opportunities for recreation and wellness programs), these courses will be offered at a reduced capacity due to COVID-19. For students who will be enrolled during Academic Year 2020-21, the College has approved a waiver to the PE General Education Requirement to allow for academic progress despite these limitations. The application of this waiver varies based on your graduation date.

  • For students graduating in Fall 2020, Spring 2021, or Summer 2021, the PE requirement is waived. If you have either zero PE credits or one PE credit and graduate next year, you do not need to complete any additional PE courses.

  • For students enrolled next year who are graduating in Fall 2021 or later:
    • If you have already taken one PED or PPF course, you will receive a waiver for the second PE course. This means that your PE requirement is now complete.
    • If you have not taken any PE courses, OUE will apply a waiver towards one required PE course (PPF). You will be required to complete a second PE course before graduating. This can either be a PED or a PPF course.

College staff will work with the Degree Tracker Team to enter the PE waiver for students, but this process will not be complete until sometime in the fall.
