Faculty Funding Opportunities

Halle Institute/CFDE Global Atlanta Innovative Teaching Grants

The Halle Institute for Global Research and the Center for Faculty Development and Excellence have the Global Atlanta Innovative Teaching (GAIT) grant program to support faculty teaching. The grants aim to create new pedagogies that help students connect domestic and international issues by using Global Atlanta as a classroom. Only one proposal will be considered for each project. The maximum grant amount is $3,000.

To qualify, participants must be full-time, regular faculty or post-doc. Individual faculty members and faculty-led teams (which may include post-doctoral scholars and graduate students) are also eligible. Applicants must have their own speedtype account or be connected to an academic unit that has a speedtype account. Applications must be submitted via email to cfde@emory.edu by Monday, May 15. For more information, please visit this link.

Call for Applications: Open Access Book Subventions

The Digital Publishing in the Humanities (DPH) program offers subventions of up to $15,000 to faculty members who have a book under contract that they would like to make “open” (available to read for free online) immediately upon publication. These subventions are paid directly to the publisher, who produces and hosts the open e-book (generally in PDF or EPUB format). Open books may also be added to digital repositories such as JSTOR, Project Muse, and HathiTrust in order to make it easier for readers to find them.

Contrary to expectations, recent data from the TOME initiative show that sales of print editions of open monographs are holding steady with the sales of comparable non-open monographs. At the same time, open monographs average a tenfold increase in readership compared to purchase-only books.

Applications for open access subventions are open to all Emory College faculty. More information and the application form are available here. Please contact Mae Velloso-Lyons with questions (m.velloso-lyons@emory.edu). Applications are due Monday, May 1.
