Course Evaluations Launch April 19

The majority of Emory College course evaluations will go live and open for student submissions at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, April 19. In most cases, students will have until the end of the day on Wednesday, May 4 to submit their evaluation, unless this window has been modified by the instructor or department staff.

For instructors, any review and customization of course evaluations ends today, Wednesday April 13. Department staff will have until Friday April 15 to complete any other customizations for their department.

Faculty are encouraged to set aside time in final class meetings for course evaluations and consider offering incentives to students to complete them. Please note that sections that receive less than a 50% response rate will not yield full reports.

All students should be able to complete evaluations (or formally opt out) via Canvas, but as a back-up they may also use the individualized link they will receive in their email from emory-college@evalkit.emory.edu. Non-responding students will also receive a reminder 48 hours prior to the closure of each course’s individual submission window.

Instructors or staff with questions can email the College’s course evaluation team at ec-courseevals@emory.edu

Professoring While Parenting: Support for Faculty Parents of Young Children

During the peak years of the COVID-19 pandemic, faculty parents of young children reported a disproportionate loss of research time – the effects of which we have yet to fully grasp. Beyond questions of scholarly productivity, however, faculty parents – especially those who became parents during the pandemic – have reported continued struggles with the impacts of lockdown and isolation. The close support networks that parents of young children might depend on with friends and colleagues who share or have shared their experiences have been difficult to access.

The Center for Faculty Development and Excellence and the Emory Caregiver Support Program in the Work-Life Resource Center are teaming up to provide a “hybrid” menu of support programs for faculty parents of young children. For a complete list of Emory-based, national, and Atlanta community resources, please visit the CFDE website.
