OUE Summary Report and Strategic Initiatives

The Office for Undergraduate Education (OUE) has developed a dynamic summary report that highlights key metrics and initiatives the office has developed during the 2021-22 academic year. This short report, which will be produced annually, is designed to give faculty and staff an insight into the scope, scale, and nature of work that OUE does to support both students and faculty. If you have questions or comments on the report, please email oue.dean@emory.edu.

Undergraduate Honor Code Changes and Upcoming Student Vote

The Emory College student body will vote on proposed changes to the Emory College Honor Code from April 18 to 20. The proposed Undergraduate Academic Honor Code and the Procedures of the Undergraduate Academic Honor Code would establish a common academic honor code and set of procedures for undergraduates in Emory College of Arts & Sciences, Goizueta School of Business, Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, and Oxford College. Currently, each school administers its own honor code with varying procedures. If approved, the new Undergraduate Academic Honor Code would take effect in Emory College in the fall 2022 semester.

OUE Associate Dean Jason Ciejka and Ilakkia Anabayan, a senior in the College and co-chair of the Emory College Honor Council, are hosting an information session for students and faculty from 3:30-4:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 12. Use this link to join the session: Proposed Undergraduate Academic Honor Code Information Session. To submit questions in advance, use this form: Proposed Academic Honor Code – Question Submission.

Final Twin Memorials Focus Group This Thursday

Emory is committed to honoring and memorializing the untold experiences, stories, and contributions of enslaved individuals and their descendants who lived and worked on the university’s original campus in Oxford, Georgia. To that end, Emory’s Twin Memorials Working Group is creating a plan for twin memorials that articulate and interconnect the shared histories of the Emory and Oxford campuses.

Given the importance of staff, faculty, and student voices in shaping this project, focus groups were held this month to gather community feedback. The last focus group will be held from 3:30-5 p.m., March 31 in the Jones Room, Woodruff Library.

Please RSVP if you plan to attend. For more information about the project background, visit the Twin Memorials website. To learn more about the focus group process, see the Twin Memorials’ FAQ webpage.

Course Evaluations: Timeline for Spring 2022

Emory College’s Spring 2022 course evaluations are scheduled to be administered to students by default from Tuesday, April 19 (a week prior to the end of classes) to Wednesday, May 4 (the last day of final exams and the latest possible date for evaluation). These default dates may be modified by individual departments. As in previous terms, a response rate of 50% or higher is required for full reporting, including quantitative results.

All instructors are asked to review their individual setup (and make any customizations) via the Account→Course Evaluations menu in Canvas April 4-13. More detailed guidance on review and customization will be emailed from the system just prior to this window. Department staff also will have similar access (albeit directly via CES, the Course Evaluation System, formerly EvaluationKIT) March 21 through April 15. Questions about the system or requests for exceptional handling should be emailed to ec-courseevals@emory.edu.

ILA's LINC Symposium & Info Session April 1

All Emory College faculty are invited to attend the ILA’s HHMI LINC Initiative Symposium at 3 p.m., Thursday, April 1 in Callaway S420 to learn more about LINC courses, the LINC faculty workshop in May, and how to apply to develop a LINC course. LINC (Learning Through Inclusive Collaboration) courses seek to leverage existing independent courses by pairing faculty from different disciplines to create points of intersection, convergences, or links, between the two courses. This event will also feature presentations from past LINC participants and a reception.

Applications for the LINC Faculty Workshop on May 12-13 are due Friday, April 15. Participation in the workshop will lead directly to faculty teaching a paired LINC course during the 2022-23 academic year. Faculty selected for the workshop will receive a $2,000 stipend. For more information, see the ILA website.

Funding Opportunities

FIT Grants are open to all full-time faculty (including tenured, non-tenure track, teaching track, clinical track, and other faculty with long-term appointments) and are available for both individual faculty members and faculty working as teams. Employees who are symptomatic, exposed, or infected with COVID-19 should follow the revised self-service instructions on Emory Forward's What Do I Do If page for guidance on reporting and contact tracing. Instructors should consult with their department chairs if they need to move a class online or have someone cover their course.

Should a student disclose that they have received a positive COVID-19 test result, or that they are currently in isolation or quarantine, please continue to follow the steps as outlined in the Guidance for Instructors Teaching In-Person with Students in Isolation or Quarantine. This is an important step in ensuring academic continuity and support for the student.
