Carla Freeman

Executive Associate Dean, Emory College

As Interim Dean of Emory College, Carla Freeman leads the College’s academic mission and spearhead initiatives related to department chair and faculty leadership development, faculty mentorship, social justice and inclusion, and partnerships with other units across the University. She served as Senior Associate Dean of Faculty from 2014-2020, and most recently was Executive Associate Dean from 2020-2022.

Freeman is the Goodrich C. White Professor of Women's Gender and Sexuality Studies and is affiliated faculty in Anthropology and Latin American & Caribbean Studies. An anthropologist of labor and globalization, she has authored two books on the gender and culture of work and edits the Oxford University Press series, Issues of Globalization (with Li Zhang, UC Davis). She completed her Ph.D. at Temple University in 1993 and joined the Departments of Anthropology and Women's Studies at Emory in 1995.
