Benefits & Commitments | Application Process | Grant Application | Previous Projects | Reimbursement Forms

Benefits

  1. Provides standard scholarly grant application experience.
  2. Provides resources to undertake independent research or scholarly project in an academic setting.
  3. Provides the opportunity to develop ties with a community of undergraduate scholars and mentors also engaged in independent scholarly projects.
  4. Provides the opportunity to present a project at campus or national forums.
  5. Provides a valuable credential and experience, and feedback from a broader audience for your work.

Commitment

  1. Complete the project as described under the supervision of your faculty mentor.
  2. SIRE grants are cost of research grants. All receipts for grant expenses must be retained and submitted in a timely fashion to the SIRE office for reimbursement. In some cases, purchases or travel arrangements can be made through our office and charged directly to the SIRE account.
  3. Attend bi-weekly SIRE grant recipient meetings. Meeting topics will be a mixture of research issues and presentations by peer grant recipients. College faculty will be periodic guests.   These meetings are a required condition of the grant. At least once during the term, each grant recipient will present their research in progress during these meetings.
  4. Presentation of your project in an approved campus research symposium. Presentations can take a variety of forms, including an oral presentation, a poster, a performance, or other appropriate form. Some grant recipients will present research in progress, rather than completed research projects.
  5. Write a final report and summary of the project to post on the SIRE web site.
